What is Essence-Based Boudoir Photography? - New Orleans Boudoir w/ Love & Erotica.

Illustrating sensuality is a process, not just a pose.

Illustrating sensuality is a process, not just a pose.

Love & Erotica was founded in 2010 and by 2012 we realized that there was something missing from the work we were creating. While the images were sexy and fun, there was a deeper piece that we felt was missing.

True sensuality is found in a FEELING. It’s not just a pose or a projection. It’s a way of feeling and this seemed to be missing from modern boudoir photography across the industry.

Immediately, we pivoted the way we photographed our work. Instead of focussing on classic boudoir poses, we moved to illustrate the essence of sensuality. In practice, what this looked like was getting the client in a pose, and then having her (or him) relax into the feeling of being present with deep breath, moving around slowly, letting arms relax, or playing with clothing and relaxing into comfort. The crucial piece is to embody the feeling of, simply feeling good.

THIS CHANGED EVERYTHING!

Immediately, we noticed a difference in the way the artwork looked and felt. It felt real, it felt honest and visually speaking, it was simply striking! It was like a window into a world, rather than a simple portrait.

We began sharing this new style of work in Boudoir Photography forums and almost overnight the conversation changed. There was clearly something here. Recognizing that these deeper truths were missing from conventional boudoir, the entire industry began to shift to a more honest portrayal of what sensuality can look like. Many photographers ceased to shoot the classic poses and went forward with confidence with this new way of approaching boudoir.

During the following 8 years, we have continued to look into new and different ways to photograph the range or sensuality in artfully ways. Using creative light and setting, the work we are creating today stands alone in its class.
