Often, I have clients asking the same question before a session.
”What do we need to do before the session? Is there anything we need to know? Where do the sessions take place?”
I always send the same reply based on a few topics:
When and Where:
All sessions take place in New Orleans, Louisiana unless you are interested in having me meet you somewhere closer to you, or at a location you’re travelling to. I have photographed in New York City, Washington DC and Charleston, South Carolina, in addition to New Orleans.
The date is decided upon the receipt of the deposit. Most sessions take place from around 3pm until 7 or 8pm that same day.
The most important thing for me is knowing exactly what you want your photos to look like and be of.
Do you want photos that focus on your connection, passion, love?
Do you want photos that are more on the erotic spectrum? (Think tasteful, sexy and explicit)
Is there a certain thing you are into that you want to illustrate? Certain poses? A kind of relationship?
What are your limits? Things you don’t want to see or have photographed?
Once I have these answers, I can set up a plan for your session and give you an idea of what I plan to do. All of my sessions are fully directed, so you don’t need to self direct, but in order for me to direct your session so that your desires and expectations are met, we need to review a few details.
Who will be at the session? A common question. At the start I have a hair and make up team, in addition to my assistant and myself. During the session, it’s just my assistant and I. I shoot the photos, she helps keep an eye on hair, wardrobe and posing, making adjustments as needed.
For couples sessions I typically say bring a few things to wear.
For him: something more formal (a button down shirt and dress pants) as well as something casual (jeans and a t-shirt). This will give us options to work with for him. Easy.
For her: A sexy dress? Some lingerie to choose from? Jeans and a T-shirt? A sweater and underwear? Really everything can work. The way I direct, much of what happens is the two of you will play with each others clothing, so having more than just a nude body is a good start. Don’t worry, we’ll get there eventually, if that’s what you’re looking for :)
Makeup / Hair:
I have a team that I work with that is brought in for each session. Typically they only work with the female participants. If more than one person wants hair and make up, please let me know so that I can plan accordingly.
You will be able to view your photos directly after the session. I usually take around a 1 hour break to review them and select the best, in focus and well posed, shots. Then you will return and go through and make your selections. Most clients choose anywhere from 20-50 image and I typically create a beautiful book with them. Occasionally clients will purchase wall art to hang in their homes. No matter your choices, I aim to make the process efficient and easy.
Please contact me if you have any questions! These sessions are fun. Getting all the details squared away is the best way to reduce nervousness ahead of the shoot.
